The mission of The Vulnerable People Project (www.vulnerablepeopleproject.com), a program of Hero Inc, is to serve and defend the most vulnerable people in the world. Some of those least fortunate among us are pregnant and parenting mothers at our U.S. border.
With the sharp upward trend of women making the dangerous journey to the U.S. border to seek asylum, many are pregnant or parenting young children.
When they get to the border, the danger is not over. Many pregnant women or mothers with infants are turned away at the border, which forces the young mothers to remain in Juarez where extreme weather and homelessness are not the only worry as shelters are co-ed and sexual assault & exploitation are frequent.
In response to these threats, a young missionary woman, Karina, has opened up two pregnancy centers & maternity homes at the border...one in Juarez (Casa Maris) and the other in El Paso (Stellar Shelter - named for Our Lady, Mother Stella Maria, the guiding patron of immigrants lost at sea).
These shelters give migrant women a safe space to live, help them get healthcare during pregnancy and after, and help them plan out the next steps they need to take to re-start their lives.
Karina has dedicated her life to this pro-life mission and has been serving at the border for more than 11 years, and, last week, she called The Vulnerable People Project for help.
Because she is driving into Mexico each day and her work often takes her to the tent encampments at the base of the Rio Grande River delivering cases of water, diapers, and other goods, her little car has taken quite a beating and often gets stuck in the muddy ravines.
And because she does this on a regular basis, she now frequently gets calls for help to pick up the medically vulnerable like a little boy named, Edgar, who is in a wheel chair.
However, with her car, it took her multiple trips earlier this month to get Edgar and his mom from the river edge to safety.
So, among the many things Karina needs, a truck is at the top of the list.
A truck will allow her to get to the river encampments and easily fit all of the goods she is delivering. Picking up those in wheelchairs and the elderly will also be easier too.
The Vulnerable People Project has committed to buy Karina a used Toyota Tacoma truck that she can use to continue her mission.
Thank you for considering this request to help some of the most vulnerable in our world, who are right at our border.
Karina has dedicated her life to helping those who have no voice and is doing a world of good serving pregnant women and young mothers, protecting them from abuse and exploitation.
We pray that with the incoming Trump Administration America will see a new, strong border policy that won't encourage the exploitation of illegal migrant labor and the surge of dangerous gangs and drug lords.
But in the meantime, there are many who need us.
Will you help us buy a truck for Karina?
