Matthew Grech is a 33-year-old Worship Leader, Ordained Deacon and former homosexual from the island of Malta. He is the leading campaigner for Ex-LGBT on the island, standing for biblical marriage between one man and one woman in Christ, and for biblical sexuality.
Matthew was invited to share his Christian ex-gay testimony, and to discuss sexuality from a Christian point of view on a new emerging liberal platform on the island. He was reported to the police by three individuals who are linked with the Maltese government, the European Union, and the Malta Gay Rights Movement. These made allegations that Matthew advertised 'conversion practices', and breached Chapter 567 in Maltese Law, called the 'Affirmation of Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Gender Expression Act' (2016).
The Malta Police force decided to press charges against Matthew, and prosecute him. For the first time in his life, Matthew is having to endure a criminal court case, and facing potential prison time for a maximum of 5 months and/or a potential fine of up to Eur 5,000. This is arguably the first case of its kind in the world.
Help us to support Matthew to cover the legal costs as he and his legal team continue to defend him in good faith and a clear conscience.
