Defend Freedom of Expression and Justice

Father Giorgio Maria Faré, a well-known and respected Italian Discalced Carmelite priest, has faithfully served the Church, dedicating his life to prayer, ministry, and service.

On October 13th, 2024, Father Faré delivered a carefully crafted, thorough, and heartfelt presentation from his pulpit, titled Never Surrender that Lion. In his speech, Father Faré raised grave canonical and theological doubts as to the validity of Benedict XVI’s resignation and the validity of Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio’s subsequent election. The Lion, symbolizing Jesus, reflects Father Faré’s unwavering commitment to defend the Truth of the authentic Catholic Faith and Holy Mother Church, which safeguards it.

Fr. Faré’s courage in addressing such a sensitive topic from the pulpit led to swift repercussions against him. Within just 48 hours of delivering the speech, Father Faré was summoned to appear before his Carmelite superiors and given an ultimatum: retract his statements entirely within 15 days or face expulsion from the Discalced Carmelite Order, excommunication from the Church, denial of access to all Sacraments and Sacramentals for the rest of his life, and permanent prohibition of burial in holy ground. All unless he retracted.

Refusing to betray his conscience and surrender the conclusions of his research, and without receiving a proper theological response to his lucid arguments, Father Faré, after praying deeply to ensure that he was acting according to not just a correct conscience but a true conscience in good faith, refused to remain silent.

On November 18th, 2024, the Superior General of the Discalced Carmelite Order issued a public communiqué declaring that Fr. Giorgio Faré had incurred latae sententiae excommunication for the canonical crime of schism (cf. canons 751 and 1364 of the Code of Canon Law) and was dismissed as a religious from his order.

To date, not one ecclesiastical Superior has even attempted to refute Fr. Giorgio’s arguments and findings, despite his repeated requests that, if in error, they show him where and how. For the sake of the truth and in his defense, Fr. Faré has filed an administrative appeal against the illegitimate decree of excommunication and dismissal from his religious order with the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.

Without prior notice or due process, his Superior terminated his food allowance, stripping him of the most basic life support—food.

Father Faré is without any major support in this most important canonical-legal battle. As a friar who has lived the vow of humble poverty since his twenties, he has no personal savings to support him or income to fund his canonical defense.

•      Help advance the inconvenient question that his religious superiors don’t want him to ask—the likelihood that Francis was not validly elected pope, as detailed in Fr. Faré’s research, Never Surrender that Lion.
