More than 1 crore 56 lakh unborn children aborted every year in India. Though there have been voices raised in protest of the legalization of Abortion in our country they remain scattered in a few areas of the country and hence a significant collective National effort towards this cause was lacking.
CHARIS INDIA therefore organized the Country's first ever National March for Life in Delhi on 10 August, 2022 (the date of legalization of abortion). The momentum which began with the first National March for life continued with the Country's 2nd National March for Life on 10 August, 2023 which was held at Pune. This year the third National March for Life will be held again on 10th August at Trichur in the southern state of Kerala in India.
India, one of the most populated countries in the world has a minimal 5% Christian Population. For National March for life to make any impact in the country, it needs to host a large number of participants. However, the awareness that 'Abortion is a violation of basic human rights ' is abysmal in the country due to lack of education. Therefore, very few people turned up for the first ( 200 persons) and second March for life ( Approx 500 persons). Those who have the conviction about the sanctity of human life are impaired to travel to the venue of the National March due to financial difficulties.
The financial support is required for the following purposes
- to support the travel costs of people wanting to participate in the March. The cost to fund the travel of 500 persons would be 3000 INR ( Approx 40 $) to travel for the March for Life totally to 3000 * 500 = 15,00,000 INR ( Approx $ 18000).
- to fund the media coverage of the event in order for the country to take note of the cause of Life amounting to Approx 1,00,000 INR (Approx 1,200 $).
- to organize sessions and workshops before and on the day of the March in order to deepen convictions about pro-life. ( Approx 75,000 INR (Approx 1000$)) .
- to place petitions in the lower and higher courts of law to counter the rising trend of approving abortions beyond the gestational limit of 24 weeks permissable as per law till date.
