On Sunday March 10th, 8 pro-life, young women from Canada will be travelling to New York City to participate in the United Nations' 68th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, a annual women's conference where governments and non-government organizations come together to negotiate resolutions aimed at advancing the rights of women in the world. Our pro-life presence at this conference is needed more than ever, as many member states and non-government organizations are determined to enshrine a universal 'right to abortion', something they claim is a 'woman's right'.
At the behest of St. Pope John Paul II, Campaign Life Coalition has, since the 1994 Cairo Conference, regularly sent delegations to the United Nations to participate in various conferences and commissions. Youth always comprise a significant part of the delegations, as we want to provide them with the opportunity to understand the inner workings of UN processes and negotiations, and we know their perspectives are given special attention. Our representatives report on events organized by UN agencies, delegations and NGOs; document negotiations; lobby ambassadors, mission staff and delegates to consider/uphold the pro-life position; and organize side or parallel events.
Speaking of organizing events, we will be co-sponsoring not one, but TWO pro-life parallel events...
In collaboration with partnering organizations, we’ll be co-sponsoring a pro-life parallel event – featuring guest speaker Abby Johnson, that is focused on supporting women during unplanned pregnancies through authentically pro-life care. This event is youth-led and seeks to present an alternative, life-affirming perspective on maternal healthcare.
In addition, CLC is also hosting a screening of the landmark Canadian documentary, produced by Dunn Media & Entertainment, ROE Canada: The True North in a Post-Roe World, featuring a panel discussion with director Kevin Dunn, and our very own Josie Luetke and Ruth Robert! This film serves as a testament to both the efforts of the Canadian pro-life movement and the impacts of foreign policy on neighbouring governments.
We will also be addressing the commission through both written and orally presented statements. You can read our written submission here:
Despite our organized efforts, we still need your support.
With the assistance of donations, we're able to mitigate the costs of travel, accommodation and meals for each of our youth attending and serving the pro-life movement at the United Nations.
The cost of the trip per young person is $2000, totaling $16,000 for all 8 of our incredible young, delegates.
It is with humble hearts, we ask you to consider supporting this endeavor - to combat the harmful, pro-abortion objectives of UN agencies and to pushback against abortion-related policy proposals in negotiations.
Throughout the commission, our youth delegates will be taking notes during each event, resulting in the development of reports, so that our supporters, and the general population alike, are made aware of what is taking place within the walls of the United Nations' headquarters.
